Dark green, slightly leathery fronds which are pale apple-green when new. Frost free area with sandy soil. Found in gullies along the coast, north of the Bay of Plenty often with Pteris macilenta. Common on offshore islands but rare on the mainland.

Was incorrectly known as Pteris comans.
