Sickle shaped pinnae, tapering to a point, glossy green above, paler below. Fronds 20 - 50 cm. Drought tolerant, but grows best in moist, free-draining soil.Erect dark brown stipes with regularly spaced dark green oblong pinnae tapering to a point. Drought tolerant but grows better in moist free draining soil. Slow creeping habit.  Only found in small patches in coastal areas north of Auckland. Smaller than the exotic commercial species of Pellaea. Uncommon and can be difficult in cultivation. Collectors fern.
