Endangered, large handsome fern that is easy to grow. Has large pale green fronds with abundant long, glandular, glassy, bristly hairs. The striking, emerging, hairy koru add a sculptural surprise in the garden.  
Can grow and spread vigorously under cultivation in ideal conditions. Allow room for it to run, but is easy to control. Frost tender. 
Restricted to coastal light soils, forest margins, streams and thermal areas. 
 
Not usually available in commercial nurseries. Collectors fern.
