Dendroconche scandens - Fragrant Fern, Mokimoki (was Microsorum scandens)
Slow spreading climbing fern with thin dull dark-green fronds from thin scaley rhizomes. Juvenile fronds are smaller and undivided on the ground or rocks. As it climbs up trees adult fronds become bigger, drooping and more divided. Climbs over rocks and up trees. Needs damp conditions. Dimensions vary according to growng site. Requires damp shade and a tree to climb. When crushed the fronds of Dendroconche scandens are pleasantly aromatic. Collectors fern.

In the main photo above, we planted the D. scandens at the base of this nikau some 15 years before the picture was taken. If you view the plant in the PB8, you can see how it has changed from the juvenile frond shape and length to the adult frond as it has climbed.
